Ghana’s Ministry of Finance has given clearance for payment of over 680,000 USD debt of the Korle Bu Renal Disease Unit.
The move follows a request from the health ministry for the debt that resulted in the closure of the unit to outpatients for the past 6 months.
Management of Korle Bu however reopened the unit yesterday after a directive from the health minister.
Speaking before parliament on this matter, Ghana’s Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, revealed ongoing negotiations between his department and the management of Korle Bu with FMC, a South African company that supplies consumables to the unit.
The aim is to establish flexible payment terms, preventing the accumulation of further debts.
