During an extraordinary meeting held in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of an African Union summit, ECOWAS upheld the sanctions previously imposed on Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso, including travel bans on government officials and senior leaders.
As a result, the military junta’s aspirations of rejoining the regional bloc have been dashed.
