In an unrelated development, Ghana’s minister of lands and natural resources says the country has lost up to 80 percent of its forest cover to activities of mining and illegal logging of trees.
The revelation comes as the government aims to plant 10 million trees to help restore the ecological setting of the country.
The tree planting initiative however comes a little over a month after the president, Nana Akufo-Addo declassified huge portions of the only forest belt in the capital.
Ghana’s natural resources minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor has been speaking in parliament ahead of the green Ghana day scheduled for Friday June 10.
