Burkina Faso is preparing to honor one of its most iconic leaders, Thomas Sankara, with the inauguration of his mausoleum scheduled for May 17th. The announcement was made following a Council of Ministers meeting on Thursday.
The mausoleum is being constructed on the grounds of the existing memorial dedicated to the revolutionary leader, who served as president from 1983 until his assassination in 1987.
Minister of Culture Gilbert Ouédraogo confirmed that preparations are well underway and the site will soon be open to the public for remembrance and reflection.
The event is expected to draw national and international attention, celebrating Sankara’s enduring legacy and vision for Burkina Faso.
