The Senegalese presidency has announced that Idrissa Seck has been relieved of his duties as head of the Economic, Social, and Environmental Council, thereby opening the way for his candidacy in the presidential election scheduled for February 2024.

Seck, a former prime minister who secured 21% of the vote and came second in the 2019 presidential race, leads the Rewmi party which later joined the ruling Benno Bokk Yakaar coalition led by President Macky Sall.
