A new French envoy to Ouagadougou has been named by Paris.
The appointment of Mohamed Bouabdallah, 45 years old was validated by President Emmanuel Macron at the end of March 2023 in the Council of Ministers.
According to sources, this followed a series of appointments of ambassadors to African countries including Burkina Faso.
Bouabdallah now replaces Luc Hallade who was recalled by Paris in late January following a request by the Burkinabè authority.
The new diplomat is the current Deputy Director of Political Affairs at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ouagadougou will be Mohamed Bouabdallah’s first ambassadorial duty post if his accreditation is confirmed.
This new Ambassador was appointed at a time when relations between Paris and Ouagadougou are deteriorating.
