A new report by the NGO Caminando Fronteras has revealed a sharp rise in deadly irregular migration between Africa and Europe, with more than 3,000 deaths recorded in 2025 alone.

According to the organization, the fatalities occurred mainly at sea, underscoring the growing dangers faced by migrants attempting to reach Europe through irregular routes.

The report identifies routes passing through Mauritania, Guinea, and Algeria as among the deadliest, reflecting increased risks linked to unsafe crossings and human smuggling networks.

Caminando Fronteras is calling for urgent action to strengthen protection mechanisms, improve search and rescue operations, and address the root causes driving irregular migration.
