Nnamdi Azikiwe was a nationalist, journalist, and politician; he also bravely fought for Nigeria’s independence.

After the country became a federal republic in 1963, Azikiwe wrote his name in the history books by becoming the first democratically elected president of his country.

His presidency was characterized by tremendous gains in the health and education sectors but it sadly came to an end following a 1966 military coup.
