On West Africa Democracy Radio we celebrate African women who have been instrumental in shaping the continent and positively influencing the younger generations.

The Woman of the Day of this edition is no ordinary woman, she is an activist, a warrior, a defender of the defenceless, one who delightfully took over the fight on behalf of the weak.

She was married off at age 13, joined politics at age 17, and by the time she was 20, she was sent to jail, beginning her towering record as the most jailed female politician in Nigeria who has been, publicly flogged, had her hair shaved off with a broken bottle and was imprisoned 16 times.
