WHO warns over spread of Marburg virus in Africa after Tanzania deaths

The World Health Organization in its latest report says the risk of the deadly Marburg virus is now considered ‘very high’.

The virus according to the report has been spreading rapidly in Africa, from rural districts in Equatorial Guinea to more densely populated areas and transport hubs. The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, has emphasized the need to quickly stop the chain of transmission to prevent a potential large-scale outbreak and loss of life.

As Maty Sy reports, the death rate from this virus ranges from around 25 to 90 percent.
