In this edition of Weekly Top News, we shift our attention to the state of insecurity in Nigeria. In recent times, daredevil and soulless kidnappers have seemingly been overstretching their luck, poking brutal fingers into the eyes of security agencies in what has been seen as an audacious move by them to over-run the city through their various criminal activities, especially barefaced kidnappings that have gained ascendance in recent time.

Kidnapping for ransom has been a major problem in Nigeria, with criminal gangs targeting highways and apartments and even snatching pupils from schools.

In North Central Plateau state, at least 200 people were killed and others are missing after a series of attacks by gunmen on remote villages on Christmas Eve. Just on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Nigerian military confirmed that at least 30 people were killed in a renewed conflict in Mangu town.

Some experts believe the country’s economic crisis is driving a rise in kidnappings as desperate Nigerians turn to crime for income.

Let’s unpack all of these as we bring on board our guests: Joining us from Plateau State Nigeria is Dr. Edinen Usoroh, a security consultant and Ceaser Payi, an expert in security and international studies
