Opposition leader Ousman Sonko has been found guilty of defamation against Minister Mame Mbaye Niang by a Dakar court. Sonko, who leads the Pastef party, was tried in absentia and has been ordered to pay a fine of 200 million CFA francs as damages. He was accused of defaming and publicly insulting the Minister of Tourism. Meanwhile, Voter registration exercise violence in Liberia is soaring high amidst the government’s inability to fund the electoral commission for the preparation of logistics in the coming general elections slated for October 10, 2023.
