The United States has announced a partial suspension of certain visas for Nigerian nationals, effective January 1, 2026.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria stated that the restrictions fall under the proclamation titled “Restricting and Limiting the Entry of Foreign Nationals to Protect the Security of the United States.”
Under the new rules, Nigerian visa applicants may still submit applications and attend interviews, but they could be deemed ineligible for visa issuance or admission.
Nigeria is among 19 countries affected, including other West African nations, following concerns over religious freedom violations and persistent insecurity affecting Christian communities.
