The Prevention and Prohibition of Torture Bill 2020 is one step closer to enactment after it was scheduled for third reading next week in the National Assembly of the Gambia.

This comes after its consideration and approval by National Assembly Members at the Consideration stage on Tuesday.

The Gambia currently has no law that prevents and prohibits torture and this makes it difficult for victims of this brutality to be tried in court

If passed into law, it will prevent and prohibit all forms of torture in the Gambia.

The Chairman of the Human Rights and Constitutional Matters Committee, Madi Ceesay explains the merits of the Bill.
