The Gambia: President Barrow pardons eight prisoners on Eid ul-Adha

President Adama Barrow of the Gambia has pardoned 8 on the occasion of the Muslim feast of Eid ul-Adha.

The Gambian made the gesture following the recommendation of the Prerogative of Mercy Committee, according to the State House of the Gambia.

The 8 prisoners include six Gambians and two Senegalese.

Per Section 82(2) of the 1997 Constitution, the Prerogative of Mercy Committee consists of the Attorney General who chairs the Committee with other members from the Department of Social Welfare, the Supreme Islamic Council and the Gambian Christian Council.  

President Barrow seized the opportunity to urge Gambians and residents of the Gambia to promote peace and be law-abiding.
