The Gambia: Ex-President Jammeh’s spies sentenced to death for murder

The High Court of the Gambia has sentenced former security chief Yankuba Badjie 8 other intelligent officers to death for the murder of political activist Ebrima Solo Sandeng.

Badjie who served as the Director of National Intelligence Agency NIA under former President Yahya Jammeh and his former junior officers were found guilty of all 25 counts including murder and torture.

The trial of former intelligence chiefs which took more than five years came to an end on Wednesday as the Judge Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara handed her verdict and convicted former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Yankuba Badjie and former Deputy Director of Operations Sheikh Omar Jeng guilty of murder among other crimes including, conspiracy to murder, accessory after the fact of murder and torture.

Fatoumatta Sandeng, the daughter of the late Solo Sandeng exclusively spoke to WADR from her base in Germany.

Fatoumatta says the sentencing means a lot to the family after many years of pursuing justice adding that this is just the beginning because former President Yahya Jammeh and his accomplishes will all be brought to book.
