Diaspora remittances constituted 62.9% of the Gambia’s 2021 Gross Domestic Product GDP according to the Central Bank of the Gambia.
This hits the all-time remittance inflow of the Gambia amounting to the tune of $774.6 million, registering a 31% growth from the previous year (2020).
Diaspora Gambians have remitted more money 40.65 Billion Dalasis than the Gambia Revenue Authority collected 12.8 Billion Dalasis in 2021 for the Gambia Government.
Despite the Covid-19 upsurge, Gambians in the diaspora have sent more money back home than ever before.
