United Nations Data on Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, reveals that the number of refugees and persons in need of international protection climbed to 43.4 million, while the number of internally displaced persons rose to 68.3 million by the end of 2024.
Every year, millions of people are forced to leave their homes due to conflict, violence, human rights violations, persecution, disasters, and the impact of climate change.
In the context of West Africa, a region marked by conflicts, insecurity, and humanitarian crisis, this edition seeks to assess how effective current approaches by state and non-state institutions are towards the socio-professional reintegration of internally displaced persons within the region, with specific focus on Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, and the central Sahel region.
