In the aftermath of the November 26 deadly attack on military barracks and correctional facilities, the last official communication by the presidency had the army spokesperson announce at least 13 soldiers loyal to the government were killed in the gunfight.
Labelled an attempt to destabilise the state, the attack was orchestrated by both retired and serving military personnel – many of whom have been arrested and helping with investigations according to the army.
However, there remains a major security risk that worries the government of President Julius Maada Bio.
