Sierra Leone announces new ranking structure for police

Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a new ranking structure for the Police after the Police Council approved the revised rankings stricture which includes 17 ranks from the Inspector General of Police.

The revised ranks re-introduced are Assistant Inspector General of Police, commissioner of police, cadet assistant superintendent, chief inspectors, sub inspector, sergeant major, sergeant, corporal and constables.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it will ensure succession planning within the force and will provide for gradual acquisition of knowledge and expertise over time, which will bolster personnel professionalism and confidence to increase productivity.
