Emerging reports from Chad say violent clashes broke out Thursday morning between young protesters and security forces on major streets of the capital Ndjamena.
The demonstration is however taking place despite a government announcement late Wednesday prohibiting the march.
The demonstrators were on the streets to denounce the extension of the transition period that was decided at the end of the national conference by politico-military groups.
Although unconfirmed, AFP cited medics as saying five people including a young journalist were killed during the clashes and several others wounded.
There are also reports of vandalism of some government institutions in the capital.
Details will come in our subsequent bulletin.
