Senegal’s prosecutor office has confirmed the arrest of a member of the rebel group known as the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC).

The state prosecutor, Amady Diouf at a press briefing in Dakar on Wednesday, said security operatives arrested Ousmane Kabiline Diatta during a protest by the political opposition coalition Yewwi Askan Wi on June 8.

The coalition led by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko last week Wednesday, converged on the Place de la Nation, to denounce the rejection of their candidates list by the constitutional council ahead of the July 31 legislative elections.

Recall, that the government after announcing the arrest of the suspect, said an official statement would be issued on the matter as soon as investigations are concluded.
