Politicians, academics, and artists are among the 142 to have signed a petition calling on President Macky Sall to release opposition politician Ousmane Sonko from incarceration.

Sonko saw his political party Pastef dissolved and petitioners have also requested the reversal of this decision.

Sonko has been in prison since the end of July and is on hunger strike to protest against his arrest.
