The dissolved PASTEF party has selected the party’s second-in-command, Bassirou Diomaye Faye as its candidate for the upcoming February presidential election.

The decision was reached through consultations among party executives, and it received validation from the Mayor of Ziguinchor, Ousmane Sonko himself.

Following this selection, Sadikh Top, a member of the former Pastef communication pool, announced that the campaign to gather sponsorships on behalf of the chosen candidate will commence this Monday.

Professor Moussa Diaw, a political analyst and lecturer at Gaston Berger University, weighed in on the situation, discussing the prospects of success for Bassirou in the absence of Ousmane Sonko from the election campaign.
