The Senegalese Constitutional Council has published the final list of Presidential candidates for the February 25 2024 polls.
While the list boasts a diverse array of contenders, one notable exclusion was Karim Wade, whose candidacy faced a setback as it was deemed inadmissible by the Constitutional Council. However, the remaining candidates, who successfully navigated the sponsorship stage, are now set to vie for the presidential chair.
The aspirants include familiar names and fresh faces. Notable names on the list include the former mayor of Dakar, Khalifa Sall, Anta Babacar Ngom, serving Prime Minister and candidate of the ruling coalition Amadou Ba, Rose Wardini, Idrissa SECK, Mamadou Lamine Diallo and former Prime Minister Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne.
Others are El Hadji Malick Gakou, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, El Hadji Mamadou Diao, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye of the opposition coalition, and Thierno Alassane Sall.
Ousmane Sonko – incarcerated opposition politician of the now-dissolved PASTEF party, is officially out of the race despite an appeal filed by representatives earlier this week.
The publication of the list now paves the way for the commencement of the electoral process, first with the campaigns.
