Senegal records 572 new Covid infections in 24 hours

The Senegalese Ministry of Health and Social Action said 572 new COVID-19 infections and 19 covid related deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

The ministry in its daily bulletin on evolution of the disease in the country Wednesday the positive cases were from 4,172 samples taken, representing a 13.71 percent positivity rate.

The new infections recorded concern 77 contact cases followed by the health services and 495 cases resulting from community transmission in Dakar and other parts of the country.

The director of prevention at the ministry disclosed that, 448 patients were tested negative and declared cured, while 63 serious cases are being treated in the intensive care units.

Since the first reported case of the disease in Senegal in March 2020, a total of 68,920 people have contracted the virus, 52,014 have since recovered, 1,545 have died and 15,360 are still under treatment.

On the vaccination front, over 1 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine in since the national vaccination campaign began in February.
