April 4th called Independence du Senegal or National Day, dates back to the same day in 1960 when Senegal signed the transfer of power agreement with its former colonial power – France.
However, a Senegalese political analyst, Professor Gorgui Dieng said the April 4th declaration does not represent Senegal’s independence of Sovereignty.
According to Professor Dieng, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the new government to ensure Senegal enjoys economic, political, and security sovereignties that are depriving its citizens of their needed freedoms.
