In the Thies region, several extractive companies have been operating for years.
Among them is Industrie Chimiques du Sénégal.
The company is increasingly criticized by the inhabitants of the villages surrounding it, including Mboro, Khondio and Gad.
They accuse it of being the cause of the degradation of biodiversity on the spot because of the products used, including sulfur, and especially of the health problems of the populations.
Infections and other respiratory problems are frequent, according to the doctors. Nobody is spared in these localities.
WADR’s Adolphus Mawolo visited the mining towns to find out. He now reports.
