The government of Nigeria will from this week implement a travel ban on four countries that have carried similar actions against the country following the detection of the covid19 variant Omicron.
These countries include Argentina, Britain, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
In an audio message shared with journalists on Sunday, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said that he had recommended that the four countries should be placed on a COVID-19 red list, which entails a ban on flights.
While these countries are red-listed, all airlines operating or owned by the affected parties will also be banned.
Recall, Britain was the first country to announce a travel ban including Visa restriction on Nigerians after the new variant surfaced.
Although criticized by Nigerians with demonstrations in Lagos state last week, the UK government has said its decision was rather scientific and not discriminatory.
Here’s an excerpt of Sirika’s audio statement.
