In Nigeria, the electoral commission, INEC, has halted the announcement of results in the governorship election and declared the nullity of Aisha Dahiru’s declaration as the first elected female governor of North Eastern state.
According to a series of tweets by the National Commissioner of Information and Voter Education, Barrister Festus Okoye, the election process was not concluded before the announcement was made.
The election in Adamawa, a largely conservative Muslim state, was inconclusive after the initial voting on March 11, and supplementary voting was held on Saturday in 69 polling units where over 36,000 voters were registered.
