The Central bank of Nigeria CBN has ordered 15 major commercial banks in the country to immediately release more banknotes in circulation

The order by Godwin Emiefele, Governor of the Apex Bank, followed an executive order by President Muhhamdu Buhari in a televised address yesterday.

 Buhari asked for the old N200 banknotes to be allowed in circulation for the next 6o days while he apologized for the unintended hardship being suffered by Nigerians since the cash swap program.

Emiefele speaking to journalists, appealed for calm but reechoed the reasons behind the policy.
