U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that American forces carried out what he described as “powerful and deadly” airstrikes against Islamic State militants in northwestern Nigeria.
The strikes followed warnings issued to the group to halt attacks on Christians, amid growing security concerns in the region.
In a separate statement on X, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that multiple ISIS fighters were killed during the operation, which was conducted at the request of Nigerian authorities.
U.S. Africa Command later clarified that the strike took place in Sokoto State and successfully neutralized several militants, underscoring ongoing military cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
