The Nigerien opposition is demanding a referendum to decide whether or not the Barkhane and Takuba forces will come to the country.

The Cap 20-21 Coalition lead by Mahamane Ousmane on Thursday denounced the procedure that the government intends to follow to seal these military agreements.

The alliance, which is challenging last year’s presidential election result at the ECOWAS Court of Justice does not recognize President Bazoum as President and therefore says he does not have the legitimacy to engage Niger in military agreements.

They therefore demand the holding of a referendum to let the people decide whether or not to redeploy the forces of the French Barkhane and European Takuba forces in the country.
