The Nigerien government has implemented extensive bans on the export of key agricultural products, including millet, sorghum, rice, cereal, cowpeas, and corn, to curb the outflow of commodities from the country.
This decision was taken this week by Niger’s transitional President, General Abdulramane Tiani, who stated that the measure aims to protect food supply in the country.
However, only the two neighbors allied within the AES, Burkina Faso and Mali, will be able to receive Nigerien goods, according to General Tiani.
