The Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA can be said to be a work in progress in many aspects, including digital trade.
The African Union (AU’s) Agenda 2063 emphasizes the importance of building digital economies to facilitate continental integration and achieve sustainable and inclusive development.
It is in this context that the AfCFTA Protocol on E-commerce is being negotiated, although no public information is yet available on the Protocol’s content.
It is worth noting that efforts are being made to promote digital trade in regional economic communities in Africa.
