Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and women’s rights groups in Senegal have strongly denounced the rising rate of femicide in the country.
This heinous act, the women’s rights group say, stems from various Gender Base Violence (GBV) women encounter without response from society and the government.
This inhumane act, from the start of the year, has so far led to the death of seven (7) women, a situation they believe is gradually eating deep into the fabric of the Senegalese society.
The group, during a citizen mobilisation through a peaceful sit-in, signed a memorandum, resolving not to remain silent in the face of this massacre but to demand an immediate, firm, and systematic response from the authorities.
At the heart of the memorandum was the urgent need for an amendment of the Family Code and the repeal of all legal provisions that discriminate against women.
