Thousands of Burkinabe citizens took to the streets over the weekend, rallying in the capital city of Ouagadougou and various administrative regions.

In a show of solidarity with the military government, they voiced their support by demanding the urgent drafting of a new constitution for the country.

This call echoes the earlier appeal made by the National Coordination of Civil Society Organizations of Burkina Faso (CNOSC-BF).

Some experts have suggested that the inspiration behind this push for a new constitution in Burkina Faso may stem from the recent constitutional referendum in Mali.

Yousouf Ouattara, a Burkinabe governance analyst says addressing numerous other pressing issues should take precedence over the pursuit of a new constitution.
