The Malian capital Bamako and its environs may have to brace up for unending power cuts after the energy office failed to mention a solution to the crisis.

In a long-awaited press conference, the director of the national energy company EDM said more than 510 million dollars is needed to buy fuel to power the generation plant.

Contrary to his announcement, many people in Bamako were expecting a revelation that would put an end to, or even reduce, the number of untimely power cuts.

Mali has been experiencing unprecedented power cuts for several months now.

More details in this report by Sankulleh Janko.
