Mali threatened by a new wave of insecurity has its displaced population experiencing a critical level of hunger and malnutrition
While thousands are already in the emergency levels of hunger, hundreds of thousands more are near famine-like conditions.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in a report Tuesday warned that nearly 9 million or 40 percent of the total Malian population need life-saving support.
IRC in the report, identified areas such as Menaka and Timbuktu, which are under blockade as most devastated.
Without funding and long-term interventions in place, the number could rise at an alarming speed – the charity organization reiterates.
Matias Meier (Meyer), the country director for IRC in Mali gives more insight into the report.
