Analysts are calling for the immediate replacement of the transitional president and prime minister of Mali following their resignation on Wednesday. President Bah Ndaw and his Prime Minister Moctar Ouane stepped down following their arrest on Monday and the coup that followed, led by Colonel Assimi Goïta. Colonel Goita, who holds the rank of vice president in the transitional government, accused Ndaw and Ouane of failing to consult him on a government reshuffle.
Monday's reshuffle came amid signs of discontent among the public, which had initially hailed the army for bringing down Keita.
The opposition M5 movement for example, urged dissolving the interim government and demanded a "more legitimate" body.
Speaking to WADR on the back of Wednesday’s resignations, security analyst Dr. Prosper Nii Nortey Addo said there may be a need to begin the transitional process once more should the parties involved fail to reach consensus.
