The Malawian government on Tuesday confirmed the death of two of the country’s cabinet members due to covid19.

News about the deaths was disclosed by the information minister – Gospel Kazako.

According to Kazako – the minister of Transport, Sidik Mia and his colleague, minister of local government Lingson Bele-kanyama both died from covid19 related complications.

Malawians received the news of their deaths in the span of 2hours.

Malawi's President Lazarus Chakwera is appealing to the international community, relevant United Nations agencies, and nongovernmental organizations for more assistance to fight COVID-19 following a sharp rise in deaths and infections.

Mr. Chakwera's office said that the president ordered that national flags fly at half-mast, and called for three days of national mourning.
