The Army Ranger Wing (ARW) which is the Special Forces unit of the Irish Defense Forces, will withdraw its troops from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission Mali (MINUSMA) this year.
This 13,000-strong French-led mission was created to help stabilize Mali following the 2012 Tuareg rebellion. The Irish involvement was first authorized in 2019 for a period of two years, which was later extended.
