Reactions have trailed the recent announcement of the over 7 billion CFA francs or 12.2 million US dollars collected under Burkina Faso’s Patriotic Support Fund (FPS).
Set up by the Transitional Government in January 2023, the Burkinabe Minister in charge of the Economy Aboubacar Nacanab disclosed that the fund is part of the fight against terrorism.
The generated revenue will specifically support and accompany the action of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland VDP, the Army auxiliary unit – of about more than 50,000.
While this is a remarkable success in the security sector, support for other crucial sectors such as education and health is being questioned.
