Ghana’s government has parried the latest inflation figures arguing the worrying trend is beyond the control of the state. Ghana recorded its highest inflation in 18 years with the month of April recording 23.6 percent from an earlier 19.4 percent in the month of March.

The latest inflation figures come at a time when cost of living has been on an upward trajectory with transport fares just last week seeing a 20 percent increase.

According to Ghana’s Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, the country’s rising inflation can be attributed to factors beyond government’s control.

He made these comments on Thursday at a press conference.
