A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to arrive in Ghana today, Tuesday, to begin negotiations with the government on the economic support it is seeking.
The IMF officials – comprising senior officers from the Fund and local staff – will meet the Finance Ministry, the Economic Management Team, and the Presidency during their stay.
Meanwhile, civil society groups in the country are strengthening their resolve to have the government broadly engage in its decision to seek a financial bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
While the government has downplayed fears the IMF program will impact employment and erode the incomes of public sector workers, the Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement for Ghana Center for Democratic Development, Dr. Kojo Asante says consulting with the citizenry is important to garner the needed support.
