The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has been awarded the 2021 Africa Food Prize at the 2021 Summit of the African Conference for the Green Revolution for its work in improving food security in 13 sub-Saharan African countries.

Faced with the challenge of adapting to climate change, ICRISAT's award-winning project has already helped more than 25 million smallholder farmers become more resilient to pest and disease outbreaks.

The winning project has actually developed 266 improved legume varieties and nearly half a million tons of seed for a range of legume crops, including cowpea, pigeonpea, groundnut, and soybean.

Dr. Ramadjita Tabo is the director of the West and Central Africa research program.
