The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague says it has released Ahmed Al Faqi Al Mahdi, a former leader of Al Qaeda ally Ansar Dine, after serving his sentence
According to Margot Tedesco, ICC Spokesperson in Mali, they followed the “good conduct” Al Mahdi displayed during his detention, as well as the “remorse” expressed for his actions.
The ICC spokesperson added that Ahmed Al Faqi was released on September 18, 2022, after completing serving his sentence for the crimes for which he was found guilty before the court.
