Bad governance especially in the West Africa sub-region has been identified as a factor giving rise to frequent military coups in member states.

The coup in Guinea comes a year after the military in Mali overthrew former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

A transition was installed and currently leads efforts to return the country to democratic rule.

Governance specialist and lawyer with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), Mr. Ibrahima Kane, has been giving his perspective on the governance problems in Guinea and the sub-region.
