Gunmen on Tuesday opened fire on the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari's convoy near Daura in Katsina State, North West Nigeria.

A statement by the presidency indicates that the attackers shot at the convoy of cars conveying an Advance Team of security, protocol and media officials ahead of the president's visit to his home town for the coming Eid celebration.

Although the attackers were repelled, two persons in the convoy sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.

In the same vein, in Abuja Nigeria’s capital, residents of Kuje, where the only correctional facility in the city is located were thrown into panic when gunshots and bomb blasts rented the air around the prison facility.

It could not be immediately established what the gunshots and blasts were about but residents around the area said it was an a group of gunmen locally referred to as bandits that attempted to break into prison to possibly free their cohorts in detention.

None of the officials namely the police or Nigeria Correctional Service was available for comment as at the time of this report.
