The main press union of Guinea reports that hundreds of jobs have been lost following the military authorities’ ban on four radio stations and two television channels. This ban is the latest in a series of restrictive measures implemented by the military since their rise to power in 2021.

In response, the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea (SPPG) is considering a nationwide general strike. Last week, the SPPG announced its intention to launch an unlimited strike amidst an already tense social and political climate.

In a letter to the National Confederation of Workers of Guinea, the country’s main trade union, the SPPG requested support from all trade unions, describing the media ban as a “social and humanitarian disaster.”
